Boroughmuir Senior’s Football—Match Reports
James Young High School v Boroughmuir High School
Friday the 13th November
A performance of real character saw Boroughmuir overcome James Young in a five goal thriller under the floodlights at Livingston.
Our boys took the lead after some clever build up play saw Miwenga with an easy chance to put the ball in the net, unfortunately, he hit the bar, but Gavin saved his blushes by being quick off the mark to head the ball into the empty net.
Some misunderstanding between our midfield and defence allowed James Young to equalise not long after, they then nearly took the lead but Andy managed to dive to his right to tip it round the post.
A good first half evenly contested but with Muir having the better clear cut chances. [1–1]
The boys came out very determined in the second half and started to boss the game, with Cammy, Chris, Murray, Gregor and Ali holding the midfield well, Chris in particular probably played his best game for the school on this evening.
We then took the lead when Murray shot home after more good work from Gavin. At this stage we were playing well and an outrageous lob by Murray from 30 yards, caught everybody by surprise [including Murray!] and sailed into the back of the net.
Harry then had to come off with a bad back injury having played his part. Shortly after, [with the Muir boys thinking the game was won] we were caught out again by some good passing by James Young who scored to bring it back to one goal.
Thereafter the defending was immense with Joe, Warren and Glen at the back, boys were going down injured but had to stay on as there were no more replacements.
Ali did have a glorious chance in the last minute which would have eased everybody's blood pressure but after rounding the goalkeeper he managed to hit the post [luckily for him it was not filmed]. Joe then cleared off the line and the referee, after playing four minutes of added injury time, finally blew the whistle.
Both teams played the game in a good spirit but Boroughmuir played as a real team and showed great character especially in those long closing minutes.
