Curriculum for Excellence
Curriculum for Excellence is a National Initiative which will be introduced in Boroughmuir High School for the new S1 pupils in August 2010. It is a new philosophy of Learning and Teaching which builds on what goes on in schools at present. In Curriculum for Excellence there is a focus on the following [across all subjects]:—
- Active Learning
- Assessment is for Learning
- Literacy
- Numeracy
- Health & Well Being
The four capacities:—
- Successful learners
- Confident individuals
- Responsible citizens
- Effective contributors
Interdisciplinary work between subjects
All pupils will be involved in a curriculum which has the following:—
- English
- Mathematics
- Social Subjects—Geography, History, Modern Studies
- Modern Languages—French or German
- Science
- Physical Education
- Religious and Moral Education
- Expressive Arts—Drama/Media Studies, Art & Design and Music
- Technology—CDT; ICT; Home Economics
- Personal & Social Education
All subjects will include Skills for Life and interdisciplinary tasks. At all stages of S1 pupils will be assessed on their attainment and their achievement in line with the 4 capacities. This will be monitored throughout S1 and progress will be formally reported on to parents once per year.
The introduction of Curriculum for Excellence in 2010 will be part of a 3 year course, in which there will be personalisation and choice at the end of S2.
Work between catchment Primary Schools and Boroughmuir will support the transition between P7 and S1.
